Background of the Language and Humanities Education Department (JPBK)
The Language and Humanities Education Department (JPBK) is one of the six departments in the Faculty of Educational Studies (FPP). This department was established in 2002. The mission of this department is to strive towards excellence in the field of language and humanities.
ACADEMIC PROGRAMMEMES
Graduate Programme
The department offers the following programmes at the postgraduate level:
Doctor of Philosophy Degree (Ph.D)
Master of Science (M.S)/Master of Education (M.Ed)
Malay Language Education
Bachelor of Education Programme with Honours
Both of these programmes are the first in Malaysia. This programme is offered over a period of 4 years (8 semesters) to qualify for teaching recognition in the public school system in Malaysia.
RESEARCH
Research is the main activity of the department. Specific areas of research focus include the Teaching of Literature, Reading Skills, Oral Skills, Writing Skills, Language Corpus in Education, Construction of Teaching Materials, Moral Education in Schools, Creative and Critical Thinking and Islamic Education System.
CONSULTATION AND EXTENSION SERVICES
Provided consultation and extension services involving public and private sector agencies such as the Malaysian Ministry of Education (KPM), Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka (DBP) and the Malaysian Qualifications Register (MQR).
