Dr. Azizan Asmuni terlibat dalam menjalankan tugas pengajaran, penyelidikan dan pembangunan professional di dalam bidang pendidikan dewasa dan pengembangan. Beliau menerima Ijazah Bacelor Sains (Pertanian)  dari UPM pada tahun 1981. Pada tahun 1987, beliau menyambungkan pelajarannya ke Jepun di bawah tajaan Kementerian Pendidikan, Jepun (MONBUSHO) dan menerima Ijazah Master pada tahun 1990 dan seterusnya Ph.D pada tahun 1993 dalam bidang pengembangan pertanian di Universiti Ehime. Sebelum bertugas dengan UPM, beliau bertugas sebagai Pegawai Pertanian di Jabatan Pertanian selama 16 tahun. Dr. Azizan melibatkan diri secara aktif dalam pentadbiran dan pembangunan professional dalam dan luar UPM.  Beliau merupakan salah seorang perintis dalam merancana dan melaksanakan program pendidikan jarak jauh bersama Institut Pendidikan dan Pembelajaran Jarak Jauh (IDEAL) dan Pusat Pendidikan Luar (PPL) di mana beliau adalah mantan Timbalan Pengarah dikedua-dua organisasi tersebut. Beliau juga terlibat dalam penyelidikan dan kerja perundingan di dalam bidang pendidikan dewasa, pendidikan jarak jauh, teknologi maklumat dalam pendidikan, pengembangan pertanian dan pembangunan sumber manusia Jepun. Dr. Azizan pada masa ini memegang jawatan Timbalan Pengarah di Pusat Universiti Malaysia Jepun (MJUC) iaitu sebuah pusat yang ditubuhkan oleh Kementerian Pengajian Tinggi yang bertanggungjawab untuk merancang penubuhan sebuah universiti baru yang bernama Universiti Teknologi Antarabangsa Malaysia Jepun (MJIUT).

Dr. Azizan Asmuni is involved in teaching, research and professional development in the field of adult and extension education. He graduated in 1981 in Bachelor of Science (Agriculture) from UPM. In 1987, he pursued his studies in Japan under the sponsorship of the Ministry of Education, Japan (MONBUSHO) and received his Master in 1990 and his Ph. D (Agricultural Extension) in 1993 at Ehime University, Japan.  Prior to joining UPM as a lecturer, he was an Agriculture Officer with the Department of Agriculture for sixteen years. Dr. Azizan has been actively involved in the administration and professional development in both within and outside UPM. He is among the pioneers in the planning and managing of distance education with the Institute for Distance Education and Learning (IDEAL) and the Center for External Education (PPL). He was once the Deputy Director for both organizations. He has been involved in research and consultancy work in the areas of adult education, distance education, ICT in education, agricultural extension and Japanese human resources development. Dr. Azizan is now the Deputy Director of Malaysia Japan University Center (MJUC), a center established by the Ministry of Higher Education of Malaysia, responsible for preparing the establishment of a new university called Malaysia Japan International University of Technology (MJIUT).
