Profesor  Dr. Ab. Rahim bin Bakar menerima Diploma dalam bidang pertanian dari Universiti Putra Malaysia, ijazah sarjana muda daripada Iowa State University, Ames, USA dan ijazah sarjana daripada Ohio State University, Columbus, USA. Kemudian, beliau meneruskan ijazah doktor falsafah dalam bidang pendidikan dan menerima ijazah doktor falsafah daripada Ohio State University, Columbus, USA. Beliau dilantik sebagai pensyarah di Universiti Putra Malaysia pada tahun 1982 dan telah dinaikkan pangkat ke jawatan professor madya pada tahun 1999. Kini beliau memegang jawatan Dekan di Fakulti Pengajian Pendidikan. Di samping mengajar, beliau juga bertindak sebagai penyelia akademik untuk pelajar-pelajar siswazah. Dari segi penyelidikan, beliau terlibat dalam bidang pembangunan kerjaya, pembangunan staf, pendidikan vokasional, kemahiran bolehguna (employability skills) dan pembangunan guru. Beliau telah menerbitkan hasil tulisannya dalam bentuk jurnal, monografs, bab dalam buku dan kertas kerja untuk konferensi. Beliau juga terlibat dalam memberi khidmat (providing services) untuk pelbagai agensi seperti Kementerian Pelajaran Malaysia, Unit Perancangan Ekonomi, Jabatan Perkhidmatan Awam, Pertanika Jurnal Sains Sosial dan Kemanusiaan, KUiTTO Jurnal dan Jurnal Teknologi UTM. Beliau juga terlibat secara aktif sebagai ahli persatuan di peringkat fakulti dan universiti.

Professor Dr. Ab. Rahim Bakar receives his Diploma in Agriculture from UPM, B.S from Iowa State University, Ames, Iowa, USA and M.S. from The Ohio State University, Columbus, Ohio, USA. Later, he pursued doctoral studies in education and received his Ph. D. from The Ohio State University, Columbus, Ohio, USA. He was appointed as a lecturer in the University Putra Malaysia in 1982 and was promoted to Associate Professor in 1999. Currently he serves as the Dean of the Faculty of Educational Studies. Besides teaching, he also acts as an academic supervisor to graduate students. In terms of research, he has involved in conducting more than 25 research in areas of career development, staff development, vocational education, employability skills and teacher development. He has published his writings in various forms of publications including journal articles, monographs, chapters in books and papers for conferences. He has been involved in providing services to various agencies such as The Ministry of Education Malaysia, Economic Planning Unit, Public Service Department, Pertanika Journal of Social Science and Humanities, KUiTTO Journal and Journal Technology UTM. He is actively involved as members of various committee at faculty and as well as university level.
